Neuroscience

Neuro, as it "affectionately" called, is one of those truly difficult subjects. It was the "Catch 22" of medical school for me. It is impossible to get the details until one understands the big picture, but it is impossible to understand the big picture until you know all the details, but then... and on it goes.

Neuroanatomy was included in the material. If one could say that cadaveric human tissues all look similar, then it can be said the cadaveric human brain all looks exactly the same. Although I received a passing score, I believe it was my lowest score of basic sciences. I'm sure there are many of my classmates who did not find it difficult. I have yet to meet one of them, but I'm sure there must be a few!

I eventually began to gain some understanding of the whole thing, about the time the course was over. Soon afterward, the task of learning how to apply what was learned to clinical situations begins.
