Details are always the rule of the day in medical school. Microbiology has the peculiar quality of having so many details that one can know 90% of the material, and still do poorly on the exam. That last 10% is plenty to use as the basis of an examination. In my own situation, this often proved to be the case. There is no change from first year; the sheer volume of information is enormous and it comes very quickly. Even so, one either does the amount of work required or one does unsatisfactory work. There is very little middle ground.
